Moving Pictures by Terry Pratchett

5.0

Moving Pictures is not only a funny Fantasy Story, but as well a great analysis of human nature and the world of “Moving Pictures”. It is almost impossible to reveal even the slightest detail of the story itself without having to add a “spoiler alert”, however some characters and the style can be discussed without fear of spoiling your reading pleasure. C.M.O.T (Cut Me Own Throat) is the stereotype of the salesman of any time, and when a completely new and revolutionary business emerges, he is the first to understand its commercial potential. Any part of the story depicting C.M.O.T. will remind you of experiences you had with a second hand car salesman/account manager/sales representative, only now set in an undetermined, but undoubtedly “middle ageish” background. C.M.O.T. is just one of the characters in a story that depicts commercial enterprises and human ego at its worst, and there for its funniest. The story is not easy, but it’s as intricate as Lace from Bruge, but holds you captivated until the end. The style of Terry Pratchett is razor-sharp as ever and his observations are both smart and original. I do like the whole of the Discworld Series, but next to “Guards Guards” I consider Moving Pictures as one of the best. If you like Pratchett’s humor, it is extremely funny and tempting from the first page until the very last.
