I came into this book after finishing the Shades of Magic series, needing some more V.E.Schwab in my life. The modern setting caught me off guard at first and for a while the book made me feel really unsettled. And I think that was the point. All of the characters are extremely morally gray, there are no good guys, and yet you have people that you root for anyways. The pacing was a bit odd at first but it picked up very quickly towards the end. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and am eager to pick up the second!
