Imani's Moon by Hazel Mitchell, Janay Brown-Wood

4.0

Imani is inspired by her mother's traditional stories of smaller, and supposedly weaker, animal gods succeeding over those larger than them. She is also inspired by her village's warriors who perform the adumu jumping dance. Each day she gives up discouraged, and each day she begins anew, until finally she has a beautiful and triumphant story of her own to tell her mother. The illustrations are lovely, the text is sweet, plus I really enjoyed the afterword by the author about the Maasai.
