i have an increasingly annoying issue with media surrounding racism, slavery, and segregation in america with white protagonists, specifically because the racism, slavery, and segregation is used as a backdrop to some white girl's coming-of-age story. i'm sorry but if i read a book set in a time known specifically for its violent antiblackness i expect the antiblackness to be a significant part of the story and not a throwaway line
