⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was my first time reading anything by this author and I wasn’t sure what to expect, given the majority of her work is urban fantasy/paranormal…sometimes authors struggle to make that leap. It’s a different sort of police procedural meets thriller mixed with a little bit of romance.

I was intrigued by the plot - a city tucked away from the rest of the world, a place where people can disappear. Kind of made me wonder if there were really communities like this that no one knows about (because, duh, that would defeat the purpose…)

I did have a hard time warming up to Casey until about the mid-way point; I mean, it’s not supposed to be a cozy read by any means, but sometimes it helps to actually not HATE the main character. Because I’ve spend the last few months reading mysteries/thrillers, my mind is constantly working through the possible suspects, trying to find any hidden angle the author might spring on the reader. And while I did piece some of it together, there were still some surprises.
