I really enjoyed this book! It was a solid read with an interesting plot and characters.

I think maybe it was just overhyped for me. I loved the first book a lot, and everyone said this one would be so amazing and heartbreaking, but it just didn’t pack the huge punch I’d expected.

Helene’s POV was my favourite and I found her character super interesting—though this did sometimes make me want to skim to reach her sections. I liked some minor characters like Harper and Musa pretty well, and thought the idea of the truth-telling Jiin was intriguing.

Laia’s invisibility and Elias’ Waiting Place situation felt a bit underdeveloped/out of place to me (both in this book and Torch) which might just be because the first book seemed much less magic focused. I also wasn’t a huge fan of the Cook reveal, personally.

Overall I thought it was a good book, but I preferred the first in the series. I’ll read the fourth one to see what happens, and maybe it’ll blow me away for the conclusion!
