Serpent & Dove by Shelby Mahurin
4.0
I had a hard time putting this one down! It took me about 30 pages to really get into it, but once I was, I was hooked.
Favorite element: the enemies-to-lovers trope COMBINED with the forced-into-marriage trope? Yes, please. I enjoyed every aspect of Lou & Reid's relationship and thought it all moved along at just the right pace. Both characters felt very well-developed, and I genuinely liked both of them. And their chemistry = A+.
The only slight hiccups for me were that I did have a hard time deciphering whose POV I was in at any given time, so some more distinction between the voices would've been helpful, and I was very confused by Beau's presence in the final stretch of the book. Why was a prince suddenly involved and totally fine with witches? Why was Coco with him? Wasn't she interested in Ansel? I had questions.
That being said, I think the book ended at a great place. There was enough resolution that it didn't feel like a cliffhanger, but the stakes are super high. I'm very much looking forward to the next one!
