It's often said that every home holds its mysteries, and the one that Maggie and Nina have called home for so long is no exception. However, these mysteries aren't just remnants of the past. Every other evening, Maggie and Nina share a meal together. Once they finish, Nina assists Maggie back to her attic room, where a heavy chain secures her. Maggie has committed unforgivable acts against Nina, and now she faces the consequences. Yet, there are many untold stories from the past that Nina remains unaware of, and Maggie intends to keep it that wayโ€”even if it costs her dearly.

The changing perspectives of the mother and daughter had me shifting my sympathies all over the place! This book is loaded with action, trauma, and manipulation. Itโ€™s definitely a rollercoaster that reveals just how toxic family life can be. Thereโ€™s a ton of deceit, betrayal, and secrets lurking around. Personally, I found the main characters pretty unlikable and a bit off the rails. Just a note to be aware of the trigger warnings, as it dives into mental health issues, sexual abuse, and postpartum depression.
