The Restless Republic: Britain without a Crown by Anna Keay

adventurous informative medium-paced

5.0

An exceptionally accessible history book. Really liked how we would visit a character, learn their history, stay with them a while, then move on, only to see them sometimes pop up later in the book. Made it much easier to follow the host of characters.

Learned a lot about how confusing and messy the republic was, how unguided and stumbling. Way more nuanced than “and then Cromwell won and was in charge for ten years.”
