The Rest of the Story by Tal Bauer
5.0

You ever start a new book and you KNOW very quickly that it’s going to stick with you forever? That is what my first experience reading a book by Tal Bauer has been like.

This isn’t a quick book; you’ll want to take your time. If you’re looking for something to smash your way though, something that can give you a quick fix and move on, this isn’t for you. Those books have their place, but this is an experience.

The story was so beautifully written. Tal has the ability to turn a phrase in a way that gets to the heart of the story without losing the details. Whether it’s the way he combines the sentences or the words he uses, I was pulled along throughout, even when the story slowed down to pass time without feeling like you’re jumping forward.

I found myself taking screenshots and sharing phrases as I went. Things that made me snort or gasp or cry. The beauty of a story that feels like the characters aren’t fully realized until the words appear on the page - like the author is seeing the depths of their souls with you.

“No one buys a chainsaw before dawn with good intentions.”
“All his ducks were in a row. Mine were f*cking feral and squawking in my mental pond.”
“…my soul swan dived into his, and the rest of my life unfurled down the blue runways of his eyes.”
