The Bass Rock by Evie Wyld
3.0
challenging dark emotional tense medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Character
Strong character development: No
Loveable characters: Complicated
Diverse cast of characters: Yes
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

I have mixed feelings. The overall theme of violence against women was presented in a clever way (set in three different time periods with three main women) I just wish it was written differently. The time shifts and number of characters felt jarring and disjointed. I kept forgetting who was who and the snapshots of violence against women not in the main story was confusing and too much. The feeling of unease throughout was well done partly created by the looming Bass Rock that was witness to everything. Overall I think there was too much going on, less is more would’ve been better.
