Ellie Pillai is Brown by Christine Pillainayagam

fast-paced

2.5

This book isn’t that bad… it’s nice to have a brown person go through these experiences of romance and boys and drinking but also at 15 it feels ?? Where’s the social hierarchy? The book is written for the younger end of young adults for sure. I listened to the audiobook but the songs were just so jarring, and green light by lorde was repeated so much I got the message the first time. Didn’t feel any connection to Ash so wasn’t bothered about the romance which I think was the main plot point here. The sense of other difficulties and mysteries were ok but some felt really odd, like the whole
teacher being not a nonce but in fact the parent… like…
. Found myself wanting to get through this book overall, but it’s not that offensive just a bit boring for me!
