Ever After Always by Chloe Liese

A solid second chance romance regarding an established couple!

This installment focuses on the oldest Bergman, Freya. She and her husband Aidan are on the outs, not because of some specific event but a gradual buildup of internal pressure and non communication that has resulted in a slow slide of disengagement. When Freya has had enough of being ignored, she and Aidan are forced to dig deep into their psyches for mutual understanding and problem solving.

I won’t bore you with the ins and outs of their issues and how they solve them. Just know again, that I’m impressed with how Liese unfolds her romances. Both Freya and Aidan have very valid issues, and despite them being an established couple, I felt their hurts and fears, as well as the UST and longing.

Small niggles revolved around a short lived 3rd act “breakup” and this being a bit long for my impatient self. Points for the anxiety rep, for remaining nicely smexy, and not overly devolving into sappiness like the previous installments did.

Know that I don’t go for, or avoid, second chance romances either way. However, this was a standout one for mostly being grounded in reality, for the great character development and growth, for showing the painful trials that ensue when a marriage is on the rocks. Every emotion and action/reaction between Freya and Aidan was spot on and rang true, and in order for them to have a triumphant success story here, they know they have to work at it, that they have to choose each other every day. I had no problem cheering them onto their second go at a happy ever after!
