Do you have a secret? Something you’ve done or said that you really don’t want to get around to all of your friends? In Rosewood, there are a lot of secrets, especially between Emily, Aria, Hanna, and Spencer. On the last day of seventh grade, their best friend Ali mysteriously disappeared. Ali was the keeper of each girl’s darkest secret, secrets that could devastate families and friends. Now the girls are in high school and the loss of their friend, while still occasionally heartbreaking, is far behind them. But when they begin receiving messages from the anonymous “A”, they realize the past isn’t gone and it might just be back to haunt them.
Pretty Little Liars wasn’t my cup of tea. I like mysteries, but this just seemed a mystery without any end. I do realize it is the first in a series, but I couldn’t help feeling something should have been revealed either about the past or present. The chapters alternate between each girl, and to be honest, I never liked any of them. Most of the situations seemed way more adult than a highschooler would actually experience, and their family lives were awkward and over the top. All that being said, I might just have to go on to the next books for some additional details. Fans of long series and books similar to Gossip Girl or The Clique would probably enjoy Shepard’s juicy mystery series.
