The Last Restaurant in Paris by Lily Graham

4.0

The smells in the kitchen were homey and warm. She felt at peace here with a stew simmering, a fresh breeze coming from the open window, and a grandmother’s love. There was a darkness coming, she could sense it, but she would do her best to cultivate this pocket of peace for as long as she could.

The Last Restaurant in Paris is a dual timeline historical fiction novel set over the course of a few different years surrounding WWII. Marianne is known for running a restaurant during the height of the war, entertaining the Germans much to the ire of her fellow French countrymen. When everyone is murdered in her restaurant one night, Marianne goes down with a dark history attached to her.

Such a great story! I preferred part two over part one, just being immersed in Marianne’s story before the war began was something I enjoyed over the current day, but overall the story was a good read and a little different than your usual WWII era historical fiction books. Loved Marianne and seeing her story unfold!

If you’re a fan of historical fiction novels centered around WWII, then I’d recommend picking this one up!
