okay so i never even updated my reading journey on this because i DEVOURED this book. i haven’t done that with a book in a LONG time!!! i was so confused about what the genre of this book was and just expected literary fiction… which is not what i got however i LOVE IT. this is one of the first gothic/magical realist books i’ve read that had me completely engrossed

<mild spoilers>
idk how Awad does it but she captures and completely encapsulates what it feels like to be inside someone’s mind, esp during psychotic spells. some people say they hate the main character, however i liked and sympathized for Miranda even when i knew she was the villain. it was SO weird reading different sections, esp the part between her and Grace, knowing that really scaring things were happening but i wouldn’t ever know the full picture. and then the END? THE END? i’m not so convinced Grace was forgiving… did like, Miranda die? is this her version of heaven after she breaks everything? the entire book has you going “what is happening? what is happening— WHAT IS HAPPENING!!!” and i LOVED it. highly highly reccomend

MOREOVER!! the textual allusions throughout this text??? the way Miranda’s life resembles All’s Well yet present day resembles Macbeth?? are you kidding!! i could keep going on. but i will stop here. loved this read.
