Deceived by W.L. Knightly
4.0
I went into this expecting (hoping) this wouldn't be another series I'd actually want to finish. I hadn't loved the writing duo that is [a:W.L. Knightly|17538737|W.L. Knightly|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1592925619p2/17538737.jpg] in [b:Guilty Crime|43823985|Guilty Crime (Hangman #2)|W.L. Knightly|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1549216431l/43823985._SY75_.jpg|68196627] and haven't read their work since (2019 or 2020 I think).
Instead, [b:Deceived|50655975|Deceived (The Child Collector #1)|W.L. Knightly|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1579988835l/50655975._SY75_.jpg|75671627] grabbed me from the first page and didn't let go.
I can't say too much about the characters without giving things away. I wasn't sure I liked the POV setup at first, and knowing immediately who the characters were, but it led to a fascinating dynamic that gave far more perspective on every aspect of the crime and the criminal.
The suspense in this felt off to me at first, like [a:W.L. Knightly|17538737|W.L. Knightly|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1592925619p2/17538737.jpg] was trying too hard. But it grew on me. The different POVs helped with that.
Again, it was a fascinating story. I didn't want to start another series I'd have to spend money on, but I really want to continue this now that I have.
