Lock Every Door by Riley Sager

3.0

This is somewhere between a 2.5 and 3 for me. The audiobook is really engaging, they hired the perfect actress/narrator for it. The actual story.... I love the concept, and the central Point to the story is compelling if not a little too on the nose. I know a lot of reviews are saying its a greatly plotted mystery and its very suspenseful, but the actual suspense doesn't kick in until 50% of the way through. I think Sager could've done a stronger job in building tension by introducing the story's history earlier.

I also can't tell if I wish this book was more horror than thriller, or if I'm content with it being a strict thriller. This may be a spoiler (because it's a major aspect to the appeal of the book), but the story is very much based in reality, meaning it is not a supernatural/paranormal story. I think I would've liked it more if it was supernatural! This book has some major Rosemary's Baby vibes and this could've been a great opportunity to reimagine and modernize it.

All in all, Lock Every Door is a very engaging and enjoyable read. The main character is likable and the pacing is pretty fast so you can breeze through it rather easily. I would recommend it to people who enjoy thrillers, especially the audiobook.
