V is for Virgin by Kelly Oram
4.0
What the heckk? I didn't expect to like this book but it was soso fun. I think it's powerful, brave and unique. I love how it identifies a toxic friendship and a bad relationship.
Usually in books the guy is a jerk but the author still makes him into a hero and makes it look like it's ok and he still keeps the girl, even though he obviously needs to work on himself first.
This book shows how you don't have to stay with the first guy you fall in love with, it actually happens 3 times. Val loved Zach, Val cared for Isaac and Val was in love with Kyle. Yet, this relationships didn't work out and that's fine. Just because you love someone it doesn't automatically makes him the right guy for you.
And also can we talk about Cara? She was such a bad friend. She was selfish, she only cared about her and her relationship. She failed to notice or simply ignored the fact, Val needed a friend. Val needed support but all Cara could gush about was how Val was spending time with Robin, someone other than her. And actually Robin was there for her, Robin gave Val the support she needed when Cara was running around with her boyfriend being a terrible friend.
Even the A group were better friends than Cara. EVEN FRIGGIN OLIVIA WAS BETTER FRIEND THAN CARA!!
and we've seen it before in other books, the best friend being a crappy human being and in the end they always make up.
“It’s a stupid concert, Val,” Isaac said, frustrated. “It’ll happen whether you’re there or not. Maybe it’s important to Cara, but what about you? Aren’t you important to her? Why are you always the one to give in that friendship? You’re her best friend too. She should want to support you once in a while. She’s being too selfish this time.”
I'm not saying it's bad to forgive someone but just because you forgave someone it doesn't mean you have to be friends again. Some relationships and friendships are toxic and they don't help you grow. And I love how Val knew that and walked away. Sometimes walking away is the best decision and healthy for you. Walking away means you love yourself.
I absolutely loved this book, I laughed out loud, I fangirled over Isaac and I felt nervous every time Kyle showed up. I think many girls need to read this book. sex doesn't mean love and it's ok to wait. It's your decision to make, no one else's.
