Bullet Train
by Kōtarō Isaka
This train doesn’t quite pull into the station. For what is billed as a high-octane thriller/funny/ satire with multiple assassins battling it out on a train it sure is a slow moving, dense, heavily introspective book. I’m still not sure what it was satirizing. There is lots of character back story, inner monologue sections and very few actual action bits. It’s going to take an amazing screenwriter to turn this into any sort of interesting film, I wish Brad Pitt luck. I did like the intricacies of the plotting. There are a lot of characters connected to each other by a lot of threads, and the way the author draws them all together throughout is pretty great.
