Bee Speaker by Adrian Tchaikovsky

This is probably my favourite of the Dogs of War series so far. I quite enjoyed the premise: high-tech Martians return to post-apocalyptic Earth as heroic saviours, only for it to go immediately and horribly wrong. I thought the and continued worldbuilding was interesting, the mystery compelling, and the characters sympathetic. Tchaikovsky has a rare ability to write non-human characters in a way that feels believable, something that I’ve seen many other authors struggle with. Even though everyone makes bad decisions, they’re all *understandable* bad decisions, so it never felt irksome. In short, a fun book! Glad I read it.
