The Daughters of Madurai by Rajasree Variyar

dark emotional inspiring reflective sad tense medium-paced

Felt so heavy after reading this book. It predominantly explores themes of misogyny & female infanticide. One can easily feel for the protagonist as she endures the pain of giving birth to only female children in a family & society that sees them as a curse.

Simply a powerful novel that lingers on after the final page.
