Starry River of the Sky
by Grace Lin
A part of me really wanted to love this book.
I've reread "where the mountain meets the moon" and "when the sea turned to silver" multiple fucking times, because the writing and characters are so good. But this book just didn't do it for me.
While the writing and characters were so well-written and poetic, the plot feel a bit low. It was just lackluster. And that's a shame because Grace Lin is one of the most talented authors I've read in a long time, and every element of her books just awes me. If the plot was a bit quicker and brighter, I would've given this book five stars. But I cannot, because such beautiful elements do not deserve such a lackluster story.
