The continuation and ending of Mare's and Cal's story was much better than the book before it. The story again was fast pace with high stakes. I was back in love with many of the characters.
In this book we follow the internal struggle of Cal as he now has become King, giving up Mare. Just like all the other books Cal and Mare are completely hard headed and neither are willing to compromise. However it is evident how much they care for each other and how much Cal does really want a different world for everyone.
Cal and Mare's developments in this book was "meh" just alright. It was annoying how neither were willing to eachothers side and were just so stuck on what they thought was the right decision. However beyond these two, my favorite character of this entire series ended up being Evangeline. LOVE HER. She had such an amazing arc. She is such a strong character and is so enjoyable to read.
Overall this was a good series, with a pretty good wrap up. There were some messy boring parts in the middle books. There are some parts of the ending I didn't really love, just cause it felt very young adult with some of the decisions made. However, in the end if was satisfying. I would recommend this series.
