Thank god this lived up to my own personal hype. After loving Tate the Pious I was honestly kinda worried that a full novel from Simone wouldn’t pan out for me, but oh boy this slapped. I was also a bit concerned because what I’ve seen regarding the New Camelot books seems wild in a not fun way. However, those books are from like 2016 and it seems like Simone has come a long way. Simone’s books are what I want Katee Robert’s books to be, so I’m happy to have found an author making what I want. I always feel like Robert’s characters are kinda underdeveloped, but these characters felt super fleshed out. Not to mention the mafia esc stuff actually feels thought out in this book. There is politicking going on in this book and the danger that Mark is in feels logical. All the forced marriage stuff with Isolde and Mark makes sense because of the political advantage. And Mark has some actual villainous qualities that make him morally gray. Together all these aspects make a book that really works for me. Miss Simone count me as a new fan of yours, I might even read the het stuff you write.
