icarusabides 's review for:
Mary Poppins
by P.L. Travers
Somehow hadn't read this till now but the audiobook is narrated by Olivia Colman and who doesn't bloody love Olivia Colman so that enticed me in, similarly Anne Hathaway narrating the Wizard of Oz finally got me to read that classic too.
More fantastical than I was expecting which might seem an odd comment considering the film but Travers work is full of dancing cattle, sticking stars in the sky, meeting stars, and even overnight zoo parties replete with humans in cages...
It put me in mind of Gaiman more than anything really, right down to the stuff & nonsense. There's no real through plot either, it's more a series of short adventures mostly with Mary, Jane, and Michael but also their younger siblings (wtf) twins John and Barbara. And whisper it but Mary Poppins isn't the most likable character ever
