The Compound
by Aisling Rawle
dark
mysterious
fast-paced
Can't describe why you like it or who your favorite character was because they're all flat, uninteresting, 1 dimensional, bleed into one another, and yet, you can't look away? You got a know what happens? Mostly for the potential drama - you wanna see how sick people can be? Well, that's exactly reality tv. Often, you hate the people on the show or find them boring, and it's only the in the ugly things they do to each other that you're compelled to keep watching.
Wish you knew more about what was going on out in the world? That was me...hints at dystopia, but distraction distraction distraction... That's also how reality tv works. The whole point of it, it would seem. Artificial reality.
This book hit for me..I didn't want to put it down. And I know the mystery of what was going on in the world was what intrigued me most, but it was highly readable, unfolding in a way that felt formulaic at times and yet, I was hooked. Read it in a day when I haven't been reading anything. Not typically my kinda read..really disliked Patricia wants to Cuddle reality tv aspect, for example, and I won't watch reality tv in real life, but reading it and waiting for the spin was engaging.
