I read and loved Howey's "Wool", and this book has a similar, dark and claustrophobic vibe. He almost lost me with the talking rock, but I'm glad I stuck it out. Because the book ended up being deeper and more substantial, philosophically, than it seemed at first. The setting and emotional and psychological struggles of the protagonist made me think of the Sam Rockwell movie, Moon, but the issues dealt with here are different. It was a quick read, but induced some lines of thought that will stay with me for a while.
