The Library of Fates by Aditi Khorana
3.0
CW/TW: slavery, misogyny, imprisonment, abuse, parental death, stabbing, blood, threats of war, invasion, violence, claustrophobia
I was quite excited to start reading this, but it was kind of disappointing. It's easy to read but also the situations Amrita finds herself in, she's able to get out too easily.
It's not very high stake, it doesn't give me enough time to stress over what'll happen next because a situation will arrive and a few pages later, or even a few paragraphs, sentences later, the problem will be resolved.
Everything falls into place too easily and all the plot twists are shockingly predictable, there is zero surprise.
But the thing is, I don't hate this book. It's very well written for what it is. It's easy to read and a book that I'd recommend if someone is in a reading slump and they need something to read that's quick and doesn't need too much concentration to get though but still has a decent story.
I would've loved this as a duology or a trilogy where the world is expanded on. There are so many good ideas and so much story in this one book that could've been explored and expanded on. We could've seen more on Amrita's parents, past life, the Sybillines, the Library of Fates. We could've gotten more on Thala and other seers, seen the world. Because when you read this you can see how much love is put into the world building, but there isn't enough time to fall in love with it.
But ke, it is what it is, it's fine, it's works I suppose. And as I said, this book is perfect if someone is in a slump and needs something quick and easy to read. I enjoyed it but was overall disappointed that it wasn't given more time and space to be explored.
