Brazen: Rebel Ladies Who Rocked the World
by Pénélope Bagieu
Swoon swoon swoon swoon. I love this so much. So many ladies who might not normally get included in compilations like this (TOVE JANSSON!!!!!!), and I want to learn more about all of them. I adore Bagieu's artwork and her irreverent tone and the paintings between comics, which are so lovely I want to frame them all and hang them up in my house. Also, I don't speak French but I think she just illustrated a GN version of "The Witches" by Roald Dahl? Be still my heart.
I was poking around trying to find out if there would be a volume two of this and found this on Wikipedia:
"The work was released In English as one volume with the title Brazen: Rebel Ladies Who Rocked the World. The English version has only 29 stories instead of the original 30, as "Phoolan Devi, the Indian Queen of Bandits" was removed because it included the rape of a ten-year-old girl by her husband.[1][2]."
Typical America, silencing true stories in case they upset someone. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
