Certainly not Palahniuk's best.
There are a lot of ideas in this book, but they only exist like passing distractions you see in a blur going 75 mph on the highway. There's hints of the typical consumerism run amok Palahniuk fare, as well as some off-brand facsimile of Ballard's Crash. There is some sort of time travelling twist that pays off like the prize in a cracker jack box, and the whole book's style of an oral history doesn't have the exegetical punch that might've been intended. By the time you know who is who, the book is near over, leaving you bewildered and like one of the Old Sharks who's spent too many years Party Crashing looking for that high of first reading Palahniuk and something more Palahniukian.
