A Promised Land by Barack Obama
5.0
I preordered the physical book but at the time it arrived in Nov 2020, my pandemic brain wasn’t able to read books. In fact, 2020 was the first time I didn’t read at least 24 books.
But at some point I mustered enough focus to listen to a few select audiobooks and I figured I would try this one since I was eager to read it. I’m glad I did. While we knew that Biden would be president and that the T-nightmare would end in a few months, it was still incredibly soothing to hear President Obama’s voice and his nuanced, articulate words. It was a balm of intelligence and empathy.
And now, finishing the book the day after Biden’s first address to share much needed better news about economic support for those who need it most and vaccine distribution plans, I’m thinking about Obama and Biden working together. This book gives me hope that Biden too can do more “rescuing” as many Democrats seem to have to do after Republican administrations.
The book’s words and stories (& Pete Souza’s pics) were fantastic. I look forward to the next volume and hope my pandemic brain can read again by then.
