Disappointed to say I was unimpressed by this one, since it’s one of the most well known ace fiction books. Georgia as a character was just annoying, I found myself often frustrated by her narration. I get being anxious and confused but there were points where it really hindered the narrative to the point where it was almost intolerable. I related to a lot of what Georgia experienced, but it felt as though she experienced little to no growth as a character while everyone else around her grew immensely. I was infinitely more interested in Runi (or Rooney I guess? Audiobook problems) and Pip’s relationship, which is frustrating considering it’s a book about an aro ace character… Also I feel like the characters were drunk for at least half of the book…
Additionally, this book just feels dated, which is wild to say about a book released 5 years ago. But references to Trump “build a wall, Bucky Barnes AU fanfic, and other things just made the whole thing feel out of date, even though the story is technically timeless.
Overall just kind of disappointed with this one. My quest to find ace literature that feels satisfying continues I suppose.
