Thank you to Netgalley for a chance to read an ARC of this book!
For a book about a world that's basically a pile of fairy tales, this story is surprisingly dark. Stories that, when lost, literally wipe places, languages, people, even memories out of existence? The messages about immigrants and the normal people just trying to get by were strong, and particularly poignant right now. Add the progressively more sinister government, and this feels like a very timely novel.
It gets a touch confusing and busy near the end, but overall I very much enjoyed this book. The emotion and relationships between all the characters are really strong.
