I don't have a lot of patience for world building and I don't find fantasy nature, creatures, and humanoids interesting just because they are magical and different, and I'm also not a big fan of the long war scene descriptions, but I've gotten far enough to get to the story and souls of the characters, which is the main reason I read books.
The first 4/5 of the book seemed painfully slow, however I was able to rush through the ending. At this point I finally care for all of the characters and am intrigued by the mystery. I think that's a good start. Let's hope the pacing is more even in the next books!
