A Court of Blood and Void by Meg Xuemei X

5.0

Okay so I had been putting off reading this series for a while. It kept popping up in my facebook groups and looked interesting but I never really got the urge to read. But once I saw it was on kindle unlimited I thought eh lets give it a shot. And wow am I glad I did. This book seriously exceeded any expectations I thought I had!

Cassandra has been locked away in a cage and abused by her mother her entire life. Told that she is a dangerous monster and cannot be let out, Cass has never stopped fighting to be free. Until one day the door opens *is kicked down* and instead of her mom, a vampire and a panther she's never seen before walk in and set her free. Everything as she knew it changes in a moment. All Cass wants is to be free, but can she when these creatures want her to be some big weapon in a war she wants nothing to do with?

This book has everything a fantasy lover could want. There's creatures of every kind: vampires, fae, shifters, gods; magic, different worlds/realms, and some romance and steam. There's something for everyone here which I really enjoyed!

I also wanted to address the fact that Cass is only fifteen. I read a ton of bad reviews based on this fact alone. But she isn't human. She is not an adolescent but a powerful creature who reached maturity years before. She is fully grown and not a child. You can't read this thinking of her in human terms. As it's explained in the book, she is fully mature, and the other gods in the story reach maturity at the age of 2. While she isn't fully a god, we don't really know what she is, she is definitely no ordinary human so please don't disregard this book because she is more than human and should be understood under different rules. She is a woman, not a little girl.

A Court of Blood and Void is a seriously amazing story. I loved this book and cannot wait for book 2! Meg Xuemei X is a new author for me and definitely one I will look to for future books.
