This was an elementary favorite of mine and I was so proud of myself for piecing it together then. Now, the details long forgotten but the fondness of the story still in my mind, I read it again to see if it stands up to time. It absolutely does. It’s a fast-paced story that’s told in woven, webbed pieces, sometimes a new strand starting without you even realizing it. Certain parts triggered memories as I re-read but the multiple twists at the end and the time accounted for after the game were still just as exciting to get to this time. It’s probably the book I remembered the most from my childhood so the nostalgia adds to my rating but I also just genuinely think Raskin was a great storyteller. It was a quick read to get me out of a slump but I hope it ignites a lifelong love of reading for some young person out there.
