I understand why this was a bit of a dual timeline, with jumping back to previous New Years Eves in Minnie’s life, to show the pattern of unfortunate events that seemed to occur on that day. However, I found it distracting to just be getting into the current day timeline and then have a chapter that went back to years previous. I wonder if I would’ve enjoyed that part of the book more, if the modern day timeline had been introduced and then we flashed back to the previous NYEs, but told in chronological order instead? After about halfway through the book, many more of the conservative chapters were the modern day timeline, which allowed me to get more invested in that part of the story.
