Of all the mafia books I’ve read, this one shows more of the dark, the lengths that those stuck in that life go through to even grab a shred of attention or worth. It shows just how much some people have to give up in order to survive. Nicky and Zita don’t know each other, not fully, but they ouch and pull and fight for a fraction of freedom and a chance to truly find out if their feelings are mutual (or at least have a chance to develop). Nicky is obsession and devotion, and Zita is lost in so many ways, only survival and Maddie her focus. But they manage to come together for a common goal.
