You Killed Me First
by John Marrs
I'm really not sure how I feel about this one. Marrs is an excellent author, and I've loved the majority of the work he's put out, but I feel like certain liberties he decided to take with this one just weren't for me. At times, this read like your run of the mill thriller. A neighborhood and its neighbors full of secrets. The past coming back to bite you in the ass. Twists and turns that make your head spin. But in-between all of those things, other aspects of this story, which will enter spoiler territory if I dive too deep just slowed things down to a crawl and overall I think this was too different of a book for me to truly enjoy. If you've read The House Across The Lake by Riley Sager and was surprised by the out of nowhere twist in that book you'll know what I mean when I say John definitely took some liberties here that I didn't expect. Also, there's such a thing as having too many twists in a book as they can just jumble up the plot, and that was also one of my issues here as well.
