I could not want anything more from this book. Katherine Arden has a mastery of language and storytelling, weaving them together into the pleasant cadence of hearing an old folktale retold.

The characters are flawed in a way that enriched the story, and while the jumps in pov are a little sudden within chapters, once you get used to the pace and style it is easy to follow and gives a more rounded perspective, allowing you to experience the story from the perspective of each character as it evolves rather than jumping back and forth in time.

The author’s voice is refreshing in the world of fantasy, and there is an affectionate attention to detail that, rather than becoming tedious, manages to pull you in further to the world.

I will be adding it to my list of books that are very worth reading again.
