The Frog Prince by Jacob Grimm

4.0

This is one of those books that I picked up and bought for the art of it. This is a beautiful edition. I love the illustrations, the transparent pages, layering and stylistic detail. I did like this story with the more original narrative followed here rather than the romanticized version where a kiss turns the frog to a prince, but this still isn't one of my favourite fairytales. I found the princess bratty and spoiled, though the idea of the frog turning into a prince when she finally stands up for herself is better than the kissing route, despite the violence of throwing him against a wall. To be honest the frog prince and princess were both unlikable, but I love this edition just as a collector's piece.
