On the Edge by Ilona Andrews

4.0

Series: The Edge #1
Rating: 4 stars - It was really good

Rose Drayton lives on the Edge, between the world of the Broken (without magic) and the Weird (the blueblood aristocrats rule and magic flows). As an Edger she can easily travel from one world to the next, but she is struggling to survive by working a minimum wage job in the Broken to support her two kid brothers in the Edge. When Declan Camarine, a blueblood noble, comes into her life, he is determined to have her and her power.

This is a fascinating world with the Edge, Broken, and Weird. I love extreme differences between these parallel worlds and how they interact and survive in each. The Edge is fascinating because it reminds me a lot of rural West Virginia, which is where I am from, with its spread out families, feuds, and prejudices. Ilona Andrews really know how to create fascinating and unique worlds filled with some amazing and terrifying creatures.

Rose is a woman who has spent a good portion of her life raising her two younger brothers. She doesn’t trust men because of how strong her ability to flash is. She has been hunted as a breeder for too long and it has made her into a very strong willed woman who is determined to live without a man. I really loved Rose. She is kind, compassionate, dangerous, and a wonderful sister. She may avoid men because of what they have done to her but she still wants love.

Declan is an interesting hero. The more you learn about him the more you realize he isn’t the noble and stuck up blueblood he originally portrayed himself as. He is protective, cocky, and yet, also really sweet when he needs to be. I liked him. Declan and Rose start off as enemies but with each passing day and with each creature they destroy they find themselves falling in love. Their relationship is slow building but I loved it.

I love the blend of action, danger, and romance in this book. Ilona Andrews really knows how to create a great balance between the three. Overall, this is another wonderful and unique world and I highly recommend it if you like UF, enemies to lovers, and action packed romance.
