The Beautiful Ashes
by Jeaniene Frost
So disappointed in this one. Frost is one of my favorite authors, practically an auto-buy, and I was excited for something to fill the void that Cat and Bones have left in my heart. However, this was not it. This is cookie-cutter young adult with a bit more sexy feelings in it, and the angels and demons premise isn't even that exciting or different.
I read the whole thing, but after about halfway, I couldn't stop marking the similarities between THE BEAUTIFUL ASHES and the other host of YA novels with the older man who appears young and hot, the girl who discovers she has crazy awesome powers when really she thought she was just crazy, and the panty-melting attraction between the two that cannot keep them apart. At the very least, there is no love triangle.
THE BEAUTIFUL ASHES doesn't break any molds, it doesn't strike out onto any new ground, and it definitely doesn't live up to Frost's other works. If this type of standard, predictable YA novel is your jam, then by all means, you'll love this! But if not, skip it, you'll be better off for it.
