Wow. The way the characters were woven into each other was well done. I think the main focus was the character development and the struggles they went through vs

the shooting since that was really the last maybe 50 ish pages

I really liked that it was predominantly set in Oakland. I am very familiar with the area so it made everything even more vivid. It felt so real I had to Google to see if it was based on a real event. I do think for me there were too many characters? I kept forgetting who was who.
