Swear on My Life by S.L. Scott
1.0
Unfortunately this was a complete miss for me. And while generally I would have considered giving this one a DNF, I kept reading because I was waiting for the second chance to begin. Why was I waiting for that? Because the blurb very definitively mentioned this was a second chance romance. But when 3/4 of the book is spent in the initial relationship that doesn't leave sufficient time to rebuild that relationship. Not to mention it was the most ridiculous reason to have this couple break up. And when this couple did reunite - at the 90% mark - everything just fell into place so quickly. Lark, the heroine, forgave Harbor after barely making him work for it. (Also, this might be petty on my part but the blurb also mentioned this was a billionaire romance and well, the hero was always rich and it wasn't really clear that in their time apart he became that much richer. Ugh) Finally, the heroine's long lost mother - who abandoned her at 2 years old - suddenly reappeared in the final chapter and Lark, who's spent her whole life resenting her mom, is totally cool with the explanation of why she left. Make it make sense people. Just no.
