This was not the atmospheric Western horror that I was promised. The story that I did get was fine but not extraordinary or memorable. I wanted to like the characters more than I did. They felt like shells that needed more filling. And I wanted to like the plot more but it went in too many directions to really nail any of them. It read like historical fiction with a drop of horror as an after-thought. There were sections and passages of the book that drew me in, but as a whole this one wasn't for me.
