Double Booked by Lily Lindon

3.0

Every character in this book annoyed me. George/Gina is a really frustrating protagonist throughout - her grief and trauma about the loss of her dad isn't really explained or dealt with until the last few chapters (despite being heavily hinted about throughout), her decisions are often terrible, and she treats everyone around her like bit parts in her own melodrama. Her relationship with Doug was written really one-dimensionally, which meant it was hard to see why she was torn as they didn't seem particularly happy. The story seems to lean into stereotypes about the queer community and there is some really biphobic language - I think the author was trying to satirise/critique these elements but I'm not sure it quite worked. The ending is good but it almost felt too neat after the messiness of the rest of the book.
