The very first of the Edge Chronicles books, it is quite strange to read after the prequels as it becomes quite clear how much work was done to flesh out characters that feature in passing in this book especially. Unlike the prequels, this mainly focusses on the Deepwoods and Twig's attempt to escape them. Twig's narrative is episodic but keeps the attention but the links to the prequels don't quiet work.
