Is She Really Going Out with Him? by Sophie Cousens

5.0

Solid Rom-com!

I really enjoyed this book! One of the better rom-coms I have read in a while. I giggled and swooned all throughout!

Anna is a recently divorced 38 year old mom to two kids. She has her nose down focusing on work and her kids. Her ex has moved on and seems to be thriving and she feels left behind. Enter Will, the office Clark Kent who is full of charm, wit and good lucks who seems to be swooping in on her territory in journalism.

Problems at their publication force Will and Anna to collaborate and Anna reluctantly agrees to document her dating escapades. The catch is she must meet people and ask them out the old fashioned way (I.e) not on the internet. She opts to let her kids select the person she must ask on a date. The dates range from their delivery man, the surly widow Nextdoor (pissy about a trimmed bush ;) ) and their waiter at a vegan restaurant which leads to some very funny situations.

In the midst, she and Will are starting to get along and he pitches a disconnected (no phones/tech) weekend retreat as a writing topic. She decides to go and sparks fly when she gets locked out of her cabin and must sleep in his. (I’m a sucker for forced proximity) They agree it can’t go further because they are in two different life stages, but they each have a hard time keeping their feelings at bay in the real world.

Will they, won’t they? The tension was good and realistic for an age gap romance (he’s 30 to her 38). The grand gesture on both ends seals it.

If you want to laugh, cry, swoon. This is the book for you. Add in the Fleetwood Mac shout out and I was sold!!
